I have two copies of Sonic Heroes for the Playstation 2. I bought these for my son who really wanted to play the game.
The problem is that with BOTH copies (one used and one brand new), the game will not actually start.
It just keeps looping through the opening sequence and when I press start to start the game, it starts looping through again. I have tried waiting to see if it will do one more loop, but it just brings me back to the "Press Start" screen which then loops me around again.
What is going on? Has anyone else had any trouble with this? Does anyone know how to fix this? PLEASE let me know.

You've got a faulty copy is all. Trade it in for a new one and you should be fine.
First, check "mirror" side as some people call it, for scratches. If it has any, that's most likely the problem.

So I managed to get two faulty copies in row? Crap.
Unfortunately I can't trade it in because I had gotten the new one a few months ago as a birthday gift. I no longer have the receipt and the used one is a non-refundable. I had gotten it to replace the new one thinking that maybe since it was used, it must work.
I am loathe to buy a another one because that is two faulty copies I got then and I would hate to spend money on a third only to find it is defective as well.

Wait, TWO copies didn't work? Must've missed the part where you said that,
Well, you either have a crap PS2 or some bad luck. See if any other PS2 games work on it. If they don't work, your PS2 has definitley gone to crap. If they do work, then I'm stumped.

reminds me of the problem with my PS2. It wouldn't play GH2 or Psychonauts properly, and wouldn't play PS1 games at all. Not exactly sure how that would work, but that's what happened. new PS2s are relatively cheap now, so not all is lost if its broken.

All the other games, save Discworld2 work on it. And I know what the issue with the Discworld 2 is.

It could be two copies that don't work. My first two XBOX's didn't work.

Try shifting the position that your PS2 in (For instance, if its standing up, put it horizontal, and vise-versa)
