Definitely read The Lord of the Rings trilogy, along with The Hobbit. The Wind on Fire Trilogy by William Nicholson is more for a younger audience but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The Chronicles of Narnia was a good read. A more difficult read is The Pellinor Series by Alison Croggon which gets you hooked. Try The Sword of Shannara Trilogy by Terry Brooks. And last, but by no means least, read Philip Pullman's trilogy [ Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass].
Thanks for the sig, Crizy.

There's two I recommend, a 7 book series (called The Seven Songs of Merlin methinks) And the other one is a trilogy, the third book isn't out yet, but they're the Triskelia Trilogy. Damn good series, too.

Try the book "Inkheart". A really good read. Plus, you might want to read it before the movie comes out, next spring... The books are always better...
So bored...

The Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix is awesome, it's about necromancers. A longer series is the Keys to the Kingdom series and that series is kind of confusing but they're some of my favorite novels. If you're looking for just a single book then you should read Shades Children, post apocalyptic with children that have special abilities fighting cyborgs that are warring in the city, the cyborgs are made from children.

Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy is a very good one. Despite the controversy over it.
