Final Fantasy Crisis Core Impressions

African_4_Lyf 03-24-2008, 7:01 PM
Well, I finally got it, after about 2 years of waiting. I want to start off by saying I've only played the game for about an hour, and I think it's pretty awesome so far. The gameplay at first really reminded me of Kingdom Hearts, but after a few battles tweaking with the new roullette system (forget what it's called), the gameplay felt very original. Like I said I've only played for about an hour and so far, I think the story is awesome. The cutscenes are in great CG quality and bring the game to life, also the voice acting is great, even if it's in english.
The only thing that I've had a problem with was the actual roaming around in the game. It was pretty boring, considering that you can't see your enemies (like in Kingdom Hearts) and they pop up randomly, but thats how the gameplay was in the original Final Fantasy 7 and I guess I should have anticipated it. Also the battles can be sort of a bore, but again, I've only played for an hour so it could get alot better.
In all, I think the game is pretty fun, but takes a while getting used to the new combat system.  I still much prefer the original PS1 Finaly Fantasy 7, but this game fits my expectations well enough.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I've gotten a few hours into the game so I probably got further in it than you (although admittedly much of the time was spent doing missions and not the actual storyline). But it was nice seeing the places that you didn't really get to visit much of or the places that you did visit in the original game (i.e. the "Loveless" area; the Shin-Ra building with the cars) not to mention the familiar faces (Sephiroth, Zack, etc). It took me awhile to get use to the Limit Break usage on the game though. I was most confused on that aspect, probably.

My only complaint really is not having a map...Now I know that the original game didn't have one but, there wasn't a whole lot of room to get lost. There were two missions in particular I went around in circles on because I got lost. A mini-map would've been nice. But I like how attacking from behind gets you critical hits and I also like how by attacking you get random things cast on you.

I know that. I meant like an ON SCREEN map. I should've clarified that. I hate having to press square everytime to figure out where the hell I'm going. Especially when the battles always turn me around.

Alright while I'm on the subject of things that piss me off with the game, let me continue....

The Limit Break stuff gets in the way at times. Like I'm trying to attack/heal/cast magic and the limit break takes over. Ex. the magic pot when you have to attack it with specific things.

The last thing with it is phoenix downs. You can't *** buy them. If you die over a certain amount of times, that's it. I was running low on 'em and looked to see where to buy them only to find out you can't buy them.

Perhaps the Jews have taken over the markets?  This reminds me, I have to send my little brother's PSP in so that it can get fixed.  This game makes me wish I had a PSP.

i was totally blown away by this game. At first i didnt understand the roullette but when i realized that it was a serge of emotions and memories brought back to aid in combat it all made sense to me.  The end broke me down.  I was ready to shout "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO" as i watched.

Whats Cissnei's, the red headed girl from the turks. real name?

What happened to Genesis? It sounded like The bad guys from Advent child who talked about "Mother" (kadaje and his gang) but im unsure.

Ahhh... makes more sense now. You're right, there should be an onscreen map. And I totally agree with you, the whole onscreen roullette thing is annoying. It's stupid how the way your character grows in randomly selected. For instance, landing all 7's on the rollette levels you up, and landing two of a number (like 3, 2, 3) will level up the materia in that slot. Also it's annoying how you it takes over your screen for a limit break, even when your fighting small fry enemies. But, the game gets alittle better later on, story wise. Gameplay really is annoying sometimes, but the game is getting alittle more interesting.

O.k., back again, and I have good news for all those hardcore FF7 fans which may have though I was a jack*** due to my criticizing of Crisis Core.

This. Game. Is. Amazing....

That's all I can say, and the only reason I can is because I actually beat the game just an hour ago, and I am blown away. I won't spoil the story line for anyone wanting to play but...wow.

You don't realize what the DMW is for until you actually beat the game, and when you do beat the game, you will get the uncontrollable urge to go through FF7 again, which I'm doing as we speak, on my psp of course ;-) (don't ask me how, I won't tell you)

Play this game FF7 fans, you will love it.

Cissnei doesn't have a real name. From what I understand in Before Crisis you have to give her one. As for what happened to Genesis it wasn't Kadaj and his gang but Nero and Weiss (later known for Deepground in Dirge of Cerberus) that picked him up. They later try to persuade him to join their attack but Genesis refuses and retreats to a watery cave until the end of Dirge where we see him pick up Weiss and assend into the sky.
