Prince Harry fighting in Afgahnistan
|
|
|
|
|
It came out in the news a few days ago that Prince Harry had been fighting in Afgahnistan for the best 100 days or so. There was a deal between the media and the minstry of defense that they could have full coverage of the story but not until he has returned. Now that he has returned, hes being seen as a hero. Its completely unfair that people are chanting his name like hes some kind of war hero, when all he did was fight like any other soldier, and put the lives of other soldiers in danger (he was given the nickname "Bullet Magnet"). If the enemy knew who he was, they would go out of their way to kill him, which puts the lives of other soldiers he is serving with in danger.
Do you think it was right for Prince Harry to fight in the first place, and now, to receive so much praise for doing so?

If he wishes to fight, he has every right to do so, however as far as the praise goes, as long as he isn't harboring it as well as intensifying it, I care none. He did his duty, and for that I'd give him a tip of the hat as I would any other veteran...

I say fair enough he fights when no one knows he is there, but he wants to go back and fight some more. The enemy will know he is, and if they see him, or even anyone who looks like him, they will be their main target. Say they see a troop going by in conveys, which they would otherwise leave because the are out numbered, but see Prince Harry sitting in the back. They will go after him and try their best to kill him. It puts the lives of other soldiers in even more danger than they need to be. I don't think he should be allowed to go back and fight. He's been there, done that, got the praise... give it up there before you endanger even more lives.

He wants to do his part, which I admire; what pisses me off is that the media totally *** him out of doing his duty, because they had to go in there and get the story he had to be pulled out of duty. I only saw a bit of the story and I'm not sure if he's there for the glory or if he truly believes in serving his country, but if he wants to go back then my guess is he's there for duty. He was able to cover up enough that the enemy wouldn't be able to tell it was him and my money is on that the enemy didn't even know he was out there till the media made a story about him. Though then again I bet he has the authority to deny the media the right to make a story about it.
So my question is, is he out for the praise or is he out for duty? I believe he has the right to serve his country and nobody should be denied that, if anything I'd like for people in politics to experience combat so they know what they're dealing with.

Prince Harry and politics don't really go, he has absolutely no power whatsoever.
I heard on the news (they're doing a huge coverage on afghanistan on one news channel cause of this) there was a deal between the media and the MoD, that they would be able to publish the story but not until they gave the go ahead when he was home. The media didn't make the stories until the MoD said it was ok for them to do so. He was back home when the stories were published.
I think he genuinely wanted to serve for his country, but the press decided to mark him as a hero. He has every right to go and fight, but he must have known what would happen. Of course people would see him as a hero and praise him for doing the same job thousands other soldiers do. Of course the soliders he would fight alongside would be weary of him and see him as a threat to their safety. Of course he would have to go out of his way to make sure no one recognised him. He's been there, done that, got the glory, he doesn't need to go back and fight, he's already proved himself to be like all the other soldiers.

He's proved himself to everyone else, but that doesn't mean he truly feels that he's done enough.
Anyways, when politics is involved I was aiming more at how he's redeeming himself from the very negative press he'd got in the past; and the politicians should experience combat thing to actual politicians.

I thought that he had left, he did say once that it was his last post.
