My Lousy Job

Need some tips

Ok... I am going to have a job in about 3 months, that is right after I graduate from my high school. There is no way of getting out of it since  I cant pay my tuition in the form of bottled sperm.

Since I dont have to go to the town where the only place to work at is wal-mart, I am going to a place where they have variety of opened jobs.

None of my real friends dont have a job so they cant tell me anything.

1. I need any advice that you can offer from expeirence on how to deal with bad bosses and co-workers?

2. Since the town is classified as a "college" town since it is the only college I could afford for a year. This usually means that most buissinesses or chain stored are hiring new 1st year students year around during the summer time. You can say it is a yearly job fair or something in that nature. So out of these which would you suggest?

1. Wal-Mart
2. Lowes (hardware store)
3. McDonalds
4. Movie Gallary
5. 123theater (some weird name but it is a movie theater place)
6. Burgar King
7. Some local sports store
8. Krystals (your southern white castle)
9. Goodys (clothing store)
10. Winn-Dixie (southern grocery store)

The thing is...This has happened when my wife WASN'T home...I think it may be my 17 year old daughter. I've looked in her room and she has some of the same sex toys and she has written in her journal that she is into that same kind of fetish. What should I do?"

Smile... A lot.  One thing I always did was smile.  When ever my boss gave me an order I would say "Right a way" and smile.  Or when I would greet my boss, I would say, "Good Morning" and smile.  I eventually quit but when I did , my boss mentioned that my smile always made her feel a little more comfortable around her and that she felt that she could trust me.  One thing,  don't make it a full on smile.  You don't want to be doing one of those giant  perverted smiles.  Just a quick one.

Another thing to do is look them right in the eye when your boss is talking to you.  If you look around it makes it look like you are not listening.

Most importantly, No sass or sarcasm, well at least until you really get to know your boss.  Always speak in a professional manor.  Nothing annoys a boss more than an employee acting smart with them.

Any of the bolded stores would be a good place to work.  You always want to avoid working at Fast food.  The reason is a lot of people get pissy about there food.  So any little mistake they see they will point it out.

I advise you to work somewhere where human contact is minimal. People like to give people, who they think are lower than them, a hard time.

Work at the hardware store, I say.

Thanks for the sig, Crizy.

Well...I know I'd definately be going for the Movie Gallery, but then again like I mentioned before it's been a dream of mine to work at one....plus you get free movie rentals, major money saving there.

You'd probably meet a lot of chicks working at a clothing store, but then again they also might think that you're gay.

With the crappy boss thing, the owner of the company liked me because I was comical and worked damn hard when I was with him, whenever he needed one of our crew to help out he always picked me.  I also told my crew boss to *** himself once and often ignored him when he talked to me, there was one time I was wearing my helmet with my ear muffs on and he was telling me to do something, I said what? and he told me to take my headphones off, I then told him I could hear him (without taking them off).  The best thing to do is just shake it off, where you're going they have to hate seeing successful college students all the time preparing for good careers when they're stuck in the store.

Knowing you, you should try to stay away from as much socialization as possible. I'd work somewhere with a simple job, like bagging groceries or something. Honestly, nothing else even seems remotely possible in fitting your personality.

I've had a few jobs in my time. The best piece of advice I can give you is don't smart off to you boss when he is giving you direction or critism. If you have something to say, try and say it in as civil a tone as you possibly can (even when your mad as heck).

Most bosses grumble a bit. After all, they have their job to do and if you aren't doing yours, they can't get theirs done. Don't take it personally.

On the other hand, ocassionally, you get that truly evil boss who enjoys humiliating people. Politely tell them you don't appreciate being spoken to like that, and if they continue, try another boss in another place. Life's too short and you're too young. (Don't quit until you have another job!)

Again, most bosses are fairly harmless. If you don't get your work done, they don't get theirs done, so most will treat you fairly reasonable.

My kids hated Burger King and McDee's. If you gain weight easily stay away from the fast food places. If you are a people person--the "sales" stores might work, especially if you are interested in and knowledgeable about what they sell, ie sporting goods, tools or clothing.

Some of these places might have great perks. My girl works for a movie theater and she gets 2 FREE movie tickets per DAY. Plus, she loves the job (box office).

As for Walmart, I never worked there, but people around here don't seem to like working there very much. (at least the ones I know.)

I'm thinking Lowe's and Walmart would be the best money. Around here (PA), those other stores would be about minimum wage.

Why don't you try applying directly to you college for work (not work-study)..ie maitenance or food service. The colleges here give great scholarships to their employees. Are you staying off campus or in the dorms? I'm not sure, but that might make a difference. I would check into it. I know my alma mater offers full tuition to their employees.

One other thought..not for the squeamish...many college towns have plasma donation centers. (We have one here.)It's kind of like donating blood, but they take the plasma out and return the blood cells. If you have had the hepatitus vaccination and the antibodies, you can get about 3 hundred dollars a month donating plasma..tax free. You go twice a week for about an hour and a half. Easiest money you'll ever make. Lounge and study your notes. They even let you keep your headphones on.

Thanks for the advice. Very helpful especially dealing with bosses.

For bolded.

That was my first plan, but it will never work out for several reason. One that it is a college town, 90% of people who grew up in that town (I did not) goes to that college. They know probaly knew the prof., admistrators, and tons of other people in that college before the high school year. They only had one high school in that town and they use the college campus all the time. They are almost next to each other. Most people who live in this college town will most likely get the nice campus jobs leaving jobs outside of the campus for outsiders like me. That will most likely happen. Second, it is a small college and recently cut back a lot resteraunts and other services. My first attention when getting a job is to apply for as much campus jobs as I can. Work-study will suck since they only give you the amount you need to pay for your tuition.
